Nevermind, the open/create vi works, I forgot to have the create if not found tied to true. I'm not sure why I was getting my original error before, it seems to be working fine now.

Wow, thanks for the fast reply. I have looked at that example. My vi is too big to attach. Here, I modified the example to use the group. It does work, but only with the create group vi, not with the open/create vi, which is what I was using in my project. It does now work using just the create group, instead of open/create. Thanks, lol.

It's unlikely that the fact that the dataset is in a group is the source of your problem. Without more information, though, I can't tell you what it might be. Did you look at the example VI "HDF5 Logging with Unlimited Datasets.vi"?

Hi,

I'm getting the following error when I try to append to a dataset that is part of a group.

An HDF5 Error Occured
Major: Dataset, Minor: Bad value.
Dimension to extend is out of range. Must be in the range [0,-1]
(Major: C000000, Minor: C000085)

HDF5 Error Stack: {{C000000;C000085;;Append Element(s) to Dataset (Variant).vi;0;Dimension to extend is out of range. Must be in the range [0,-1]},}

If I simple open/create the dataset using the main HDF5 ref out, it works fine, but I'd like to put this under a group as a means of indicated which trial the data came from. Maybe I misunderstand how groups work.
