UPVI personnel have spent numerous years working in academic settings and are familiar with the challenges of research. Often, the foremost challenge researchers face is that of acquiring the data they need for research within the time provided by the funding instrument. While undergraduate and graduate students provide a cost-effective and motivated means of running experiments, they typically lack the skills necessary to create a robust data acquisition system necessary for setting up such experiments in the first place. Due to the time needed for students to acquire these skills, the time that it takes a typical graduate student to develop such a system may take a significant amount of the grant period, leaving little time for actual data collection and analysis.
UPVI will work with researchers and students to understand the experiment needs, propose cost- and time-effective solutions, purchase hardware, assemble systems, and develop well documented software that can be modified in the future as laboratory needs change.
